Facebook launched a new advertising service, that allows app developers to advertise their products in the social network's mobile news feed. Application developers can advertise their programs to Facebook users, who will be directed to the app store for their mobile handset when they tap on the advert. Facebook will charge developers for each 'click' on the ads.
Vijaye Raji, a Facebook engineer, said: "Facebook has increasingly become a way for iOS and Android developers to grow their apps. In the past 30 days, we have sent people to the Apple App Store and Google Play 146 million times, via clicks from channels such as news feed, timeline, bookmarks and App Center."
Developers will be able to target advertising at Facebook members based on the apps they have downloaded for their Facebook page. Facebook is inviting developers to sign up to a beta test of the new service. The company did not say when the service is likely to open to all advertisers.
